RACING AND TROTTING I NOTES. (Bt "Looker-On.") Mr Ivemball'3 team, comprising Nanr.a, Ilymcstra, Scornful, Snub, Robuff, and probably tho hurdlors GJ&dful and Wishful, wil' leav'o for Sydney this evening. Golden Crozier and tho St. Sophia filly were each allotted 7st 13lh in tho Lyttcltou Plato at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Midsummer Meeting, not 6st/13lb as stated yesterday. In tho *j.alswell Handicap, Spyglass has been allotted 9st 3lb, not 9st 131b. The- Wellington Racing Ciub's bummer Meeting will ba brought to; a conclusion to-day, and the acceptances received promise somoi very interesting racing. Tho principal event, the Wellington Racing Ciub Handicap, has drawn a small field of particularly good class and a capital contc«t between these engaged is anticipated. Tho bracketed pair, Menelaua and Mascot, will probably bo made favourites, but Rewi Poto, who dead-heated with Red Ribbon m the Wellington Cup, and Heathercote, who finished just out of a place in that event, will havo many supporters. In the Metropolitan Handicap, of six furlongs, there are some fine sprinters engaged, including Kilboyiio, Koesian, 130 I'eop, and Onslaught, while tbs race for tho Kelburn Plate of fou r furlongs, between Crccaua, Gloaming, Torfrida, Surveyor, and Crenides should be a memorable one. "Each, of those engaged is suited by tho short 'distance, and speculation over this .event will bo ltseu. The Douro _ Cup, under hack conditions, over one mile, usually provides a good contest, and some of these ongaged have shown, their ability to go fast. Afterglow won in 6uch convincing style on Wednesday that she must etill bo reckoned very dnngcrous. Palm Oil, Active, Hurry Up. and Cooing may bo troublesome at the business end of the race. Palm Oil, who is engaged at Trentham to-day, registered his third successive win in £he Apprentice Handicap at Wellington on Wednesday. Sun Done© carried over .ft third of tho totalisator investments in tho Nursery. Handicap at Wellington,*'but after giving a good deal 'of trouble, at tho post he lost some ground when the barrier xOBe. Tho victory of "Alphee at Empire City lr.ot month, oavs the Chicago ' Racing Form," marked the first succcss in Amcrica of tho get of Sardonapa.lo, one of tho groutI est racehorses in the history of the French Turf. Sardanapale ns a three-year-old won the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby), the Grand Prix do Paris, tho Prix du President do La llepublique, and many other valuable stakes Despite tho restricted number of meetings during the past racing ecosou. thero have been more runners tor the various events in England than in 1917, the figures being !>59 two-year-ojds, 5152 three-year-olds, i.ai> four-year-olds, and 37<J five-year : olds and upwards. In 1917 the runners included 804 467 three-year-olds, 269 four-year-olds, and 3GO five-year-olds and up'wards. Total in 1918. 2196; 1917, lOCO, att increase of 29t>. Th-> amount oi stake-money won under Newmarket Rules in 19-8 was [ £215,525 ss. In 1917, it was £105,Q7„ 4s, an increase of £57,452 Is. On Saturday next tho Canterbury Jockoy Club will hold its Midsummer Meeting Kiccarton, and present indications are t&a,, the fixture will be more than usually successful. The nominations received for the different events are quite lip to the averags, and tlie Riccarton-trained divit-ion have been entered freely in the different events. Amongst the visitors to .he fixture will b. their Excellencies the Governor-General an;l , the Countess of Liverpool. (By "Searotlicut.") ! Nominations for the AVaikato T.C. s Annual Meeting, and acceptanccs for the Marlborough T.C.'s Annual Meeting close on . Monday.
