HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A special meeting of the committed of the. Canterbury Horticultural . Society was held lost night, to draw up the prize-lists of tho Amateur Cottage Garden Competition. There are two competitions—one for the best kept section, not exceeding half an acre, and for ' the best kept section, not exceeding' a quar-ter-acre, open to amateurs only. .. The prizes allotted for tho half-acre section wero £i, £2, and £1, and for the quarter-acre section ' £5, £3, £2, and three prizes of £1 each; special prizes will bo given for special items. The competition will be judged early in February. Points will be given as follows: —For fruit 25, flowers and shrubs 25, vegetables 25, and general effect. 25. Glasshouses will not be taken into consideration. The following judges were appointed, subject to their acceptance:—Messrs A. E. Lowe, W. Joneß, and H. Brown. . . The prize-money for the Sweet Pea Show will be paid over at the society's office this owning. Members of the society have been invited to visit the Woolston Tanneries' gardens, and works on February Bth, at 3 p.m.
