THE VICEROY'S CUP. INDIAN SPORTSMAN AFTER ' GLOAMING. ©y Cable.—Pro&s Association.—Copyright.) V ipt SYDNEY, January 23. V- ■ Ul ®, Snn" states that an Indian sports~aa, has commissioned Mr John Hardie to purchase, a horße capable of winning the next , viceroy's Cup. His choice fell on KennaquWolaroi, or Gloaming. The owners.of * w> first-named horses refused his offers, «d'it is unlikely that they will bo tempt(jfi*o sell. Gloaming may change hands if ■- -goffer for him is high enough. An offer - 10,000 guineas may be made for him. Viceroy's Cup, the leading race of ■ "is.lndi&n turf, is decided on Boxing Day, cv ® r a mile and three-quarters, at weight-for- ■ , age.. - mentioned in the cablegram iB improbable. Even though Kennaquperformed horses W i-Australia; and Gloaming has proved "hixn- ■ a good oaa uo ta * iuilo and • half, it

is more than likely that ao offer of 10,000 guineas would bo accepted by the owners of any of the throo horses mentioned. Gloaming's form certainly suggests that he is a high-class .racehorse, but the first time he was forced along over the first part of a race he had to strike his colours, viz., to Sasanof iu the Stead Memorial Stakes, of one mile and a quarter, run at Riccarton in November last. Ho is certainly a brilliant sprinter, and it may be that his best form j remains to be shown, but 10,000 guineas is a huge price to pay, and probably a deal could be effected at much less than that sum. As Gloaming is a gelding, he is quit© useless as a stud proposition. WELLINGTON R.C.'S SUMMER MEETING. x ' (press association- telegrams.) WELLINGTON, January 23.
