Ia opinion the Department have had ample time to make provision for the treatment or soldiers without depriving the civil population of special bequests, and should not fasten its responsibility on the shoulders of local bodies." The motion was unanimously carReferring to the question of housing, the chairman said that he ha,d seen a small "grouped" settlement in Christchurch which struck him as a | good example of what could be done in this direction. The buildings were all grouped on a certain area, with a view to convenience and economy for the dwellers therein, Messrs Jamieson and Hurst Seager, who had viewed the settlement, had expressed favourable opinions of it, and the last-men-tioned had recommended that the matter be brought under tho notice of local bodies with a view to competitive drawings being invited. Ho had also recommended that a delegate be appointed from the Association to the Town-Planning Association. It was decided that the chairman should represent the Association on the Town-Planning Association.
