INCREASE IN ENGLAND. II (By Cable.—Frees AMOcUtioa.—-Copyright.) jll (Australian and N.Z.. Colple Association.) |X (Received January 23rd, 12.5 a.m.) w LONDON, January 20. jIE The Director of tho Cold Storage jiil Department., Ministry of Pood, states |;H that a very large quantity, almost a, jH glut, of Australian meat will be avail- <i'H able within a few months. Tho weekly jfl supply will continue sufficiently large -fl to meet all needs, and it will not be In necessary to continue rationing. H During, the war, the cold storage K accommodation was increased to n 190,000 tons. By October there will HR be one cubic foot of cold storage for n every man, woman, and child in the i United Kingdom. The structures have |B| cost, thus far, over three million 'Hj pounds sterling. If the war had con- ' K tinued, the Ministry would have pro- j* vided still more. This course wis jKi now unnecessary. Most of the cold jM'! stores were at seaports. London had » sixteen million cubic feet of space out i|B| of a total of thirty-nine millions. Liver- Wi pool, Manchester, and Bristol coming next. Smaller stores were dotted wj about tho Midlands, but thero were fi|. few in tho North of England and Scot- juStland, because consumers there object- B1 ed to frozen meat. jjlj The Cold Storage Department in- IK| tends to relax control as quickly as |ii| possible, and leave future development ] to private enterprise. j »j
