When Kalula won tho Brush Steeplechase at the Epsom Taces in Victoria on the lltn inst., he was ridden by tho ox-Now Zealand horseman J. N. McGregor. Finmark and EMland are now working at Victoria Park, their owner being of opinion that the going is softer there than at. Randwick. Although he looks bright and bigger than in the spring, Finmark's soreness is so pronounced that it appears as if his trainer will have a deal of trouble in getting him to his best for the autumn meetings. '(SPECIAL TO "Tim PRESS.") , Oil after covering more ground than any- , thing else, was galloping over the lot at the finish. Sun Dance, IJunhiku, and Arch Salute gave a lot of trouble at the bar " Murihiku got left altogether, while Sun Dance and Arch Salute did not get Tortrix showed plenty <rf speed, but failed to see the journey out. She should be benefited by the race. Macduff, who did not get • away at all well, covered more ground than ■ most of his opponent®, and ran a good race. ■ With.a better run he might have troubled ' the winner. . . Meleo was beaten on his merits in the An- ' niversary Welter, while Winter Cherry got 1 badly left and then finished well up. It ■ was a' good performance, as she finished in ' the first half-dozen. . . Hurry Up got all tho beet of the running in the.Trial Stakes, and was pulling turning ' into the straight, but once Afterglow, who ; had been chopped out at the start, challenged, ' the race was all over. Sardinia, who made ' the running for four furlongs, fell shortly f after losing the lead. .Rewi Poto gave a lot of trouble at the l barrier, and was placed behind the field in the Wellington Cup. He was a long way back' over the first "part of the race, but gradually making lip liis ground, he was in charge at the distance post and looked a [ winner. Then Red Ribbon, who had always been weir placed, came with a great run and k just got up in time to dead heat with him. ! Punka got away well, and was pulling hard ' in third place for a mile, in behind Kilmoon ► and Heathercote. She was in front a furlong and. a half from home, but was doing her utmost, and once Rewi Poto and Red i Ribbon challenged she could not respond, nnd i finished a poor third. Client, Menelaus, Mascot, Snub, Nobleman, and Ladogeur ' prominent, while Kilmoon, who collapsed two L furlongs from- the post, finished a long way back. Heathercoto ran well, and was at < Punka's quarters as they passed tho post. ' Punka pulled up well and it was evident that it was not on the ecore of condition that she was beaten. Gloaming won the Wellington Stakes in a 1 canter, but it was a fine contest for second 1 money. Surveyor looked sure of it until fifty yards from the post, when Warplane drew ; level -with' him, while Crenides and Amythas J were catching him fast. As they reached . tho post. Torfrida was a bad last after leading for three furlongs, and she is evidently ' right off colour. It is reported that she slipped a muscle in her quarters some weeks . ago, and she has not yet recovered. ! The last two'races were run in a thick mist, , and it was impossible to see what was t happening over the first half-mile. In the Telegraph Handicap Nystad, who _ behaved badly, backed into Michaela and kicked her so badly that the starter told Oisen, ler xider, that he could take her back to the paddock but Olsen, after trotting her round, I elected to start her. She and Kilboyne were never, likely winner®.
