ORDINARY MEETING. TJie Tramway. Board met yesterday. scut —Messrs S. A. Staples, T. 11. Davey, D. Svkes,' \Y J. Walter, J. Wood, A. fc>. Taylor, Geo: T. Booth, and 11. I'oarce. Tho Works and Traffic Coiumitt-ee'a report, which was adopted, stated that tho .New Brighton Gala Committee had applied for a. {Trail t in respect of extra cost of advertising 1 the gala owing to its postponement; the committee had replied that it was unabJo to yrive any additional grant. 'JLho North Beach and Sumner Gala Committees had boon advised that the usual GO per cent, net profit on their gala day would be granted. The North Beach and Waimairi Burgesses' Association had written complaining of the overcrowding of cars on holidays, and requesting that every No. 5 New Brighton car should run to Park road, and that ouly cars with open seats should be provided on the North Beach line. It- was decided to adviso the Association that- sufficient accommodation was always provided in trams leaving tho Square, but that .pick up traffic en route -was difficult to forecast. Tho extension of carp to Park road could not b© entertained, as it would entail the running of another car for a double shift, and would increase expenses by approximately £1500 per annum. AIV ith regard to the tvpo of car complained of, the Board had already decided to provide em-otters' accommodation in the cars referred to. The engineer had submitted a comprehensiyo report dealing with his visit to Australia it contained many valuable cuggostions which the committee adopted and other matters referred to in it wero under consideration; tho engineer had been .complimented on his report and of the good ufle mad© of his I visit. The committee hud decided to pur- | chaao nn electric welding outfit at a co3fc of £698. With regard to the co-operation of tho Board and Council in tar-macadam work, the committee had advised the Christchurch City Council that the Board would act in conjunction in such work whenever possible, and tho Board's engineer had been instructed to co-operate with the Council's engineer when such works were in view. The committee had. lodged an application for an amendment of the existing award .providing for the per cent, bonus now being paid. The committer had decided that the three converted deckers should bo provided with smokers' accommodation at tho rear end. The Vocational Officer, Department of Defence, wrote, asking that concessions should Uo granted to returned soldiers attending tho Technical College. Tho matter was referred to the general manager to report to tho Works and Traffic Committee, information to bo obtained as to the hours at which the concession tickets would be xtsed. The Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C., and Mr D. Sykes were appointed tho Board's representatives on the Canterbury Progress League.
