INSURRECTIONARY MOVEMENT,

The Government announces that the insurrectionists, who are supported by Bolshevist agents, attacked the palace of St. Georgoj but were cheeked by faithful forcos. The crew of the destroyer Giralda find troops at the naval arsenal revolted, but faithful troops captured the by assault. The rebels were arrested, and the Giralda's 'crew was forced to submit. The Government has taken severe measures. Nobody is permitted in the Lisbon streets after 9 o'clock at night. The provinces' are quiet, except Santarem, where rebels marching on Lisbon were driven "back. BOLSHEVIST BACKING. • ("Tho.Tin»i.") (Received January 19th, 11.45 p.m.) MADRID, January 17. According to frontier reports, the whole of the interior of Portugal is in a state of civil war. All communications have been suspended owing to the movements of troops. Santarem is in the hands of revolutionaries under Colonel Figuerido, a member of the military junta of Oporto, which is organising the movement -with undoubted Bolshevist backing, SANTABEM BOMBARDED. (Received January 20th, 12.30 a.m.) LISBON, January 15. As the revolutionaries ait Santarem did- not surrender within the time limit, loyal troops surrounded the I town and began a bombardment.
