THE LONDON TRAGEDY.

DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED. (By Cable.—Preas Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and N./>. Qabl© Afifoci&tiou.j LONDON, January 15. At the inquest on Major Seton, which has been postponed till the 24th inst., dramatic developments aie expected. There is considerable speculation at the contents of the message which Lieut.-Colonel Rutherford wrote to his wife, telling her of the tragedy. He wrote a draft, but threw it on the floor, and re-wrote the letter. The police are in possession of the draft. It is significant that Lieut.-_Colonel Rutherford throughout was quiet and collected, though he momentarily broke down when his wife's name was mentioned in Court.

His friends believe that his action was dictated by a deep senso of chivalry. Mrs Rutherford is described as a charming, fair-haired woman, with >blue eyes. Hor youngest child is three years of age. Major Seton will be buried with military honours. Liout.-Colonel Rutherford made a runaway marriage. The couple despaired of securing the consent of tho bride's parents, so thpv eloned and wero married secretly. Tho paronts only forgave thorn several years later, when they provided Lieut.-Colonel Rutherford with a lucrative appointment and a handsome residence.
