NATIONAL EDUCATION BOARD.
TEACHERS' RECOMMENDATIONS,
When the Educational Institute had | under consideration proposals for an. amended Educational Bill it referred to a sub-committee the questions of tho personnel of the proposed National Education Board and the constitution of the proposed local Education iSommittees. This committee presented its report on Thursday as follows. — "National Education Board: That members of the Education Board shall devote their whole time to the work of the Board and receive n salary; that the Board consist of seven members, and the personnel he as follows:—The Minister, tho Director, three members elected by teachers (one to be a woman), two appointed by the Government (one to be a woman); , the members elected by the teachers-, and those appointed by the Government, shall hold office ior threo years. Teachers who may be elected members of the Education Board shall receive leave of absence during tho period for which they hold office, and their superannuation rights shall be conserved.
"Education Councils: Tho city, the borough, or the county shall be the unit area for educational purposes; the City Council, Borough Council, or County Council shall set up, partly by election and partly by co-optation, an education committee or committees to manage the educational affairs of the area."
_ The report was adopted, after being discussed in detail, tho 'debate being mainly, on th« lines of previous discussions of the subject.
