Kato I,ains (Mr Gee) was charged with wilfully damaging two windows to tho value of £1 iO3 ."d, the property of Henry F. dishy. After hearing the evidence of the parties the Bcnch held that it wae insufficient, and dismissed the caee. BY-LAW BREACHES. John ]I. Brown was fined 6s for leaving ii vehiclc unattended iu a public placc, as also v.'us Henry Jones. Ursula. Totliill (Mr lleares) was charged with driving a motor-car v.ithout being in possession of a certificate of ability. She was fined ss. A fine of .'is v.-aa imposed on John Jowett for cycling at night without having a light attached to his machine. For cycling along a footpath Paul Olecn wa3 fined sa. A. L. C. AVatkins, charged with driving a motor-car at an excessive speed, was fined 7s. Walter A. Whito was chargcd with driving a taxi-cab along Union street, Xew Biighton, in a reckless manner. A fine of £2 was imposed. George Moiling pleaded not guilty to a charge of throwing' newspapers in the air in a manner calculated to cause an animal to become reetive. Tho was dismissed. William Henry was lined 10s for permitting cattle to wander in a public place. Tho Riccarton Borough Council (Mr Kincuid) proceeded against Frank Partridge for connecting premises with tho electric light without having such work done by a licensed person. Defendant was convicted and discharged. William Lugg (Mr IC. M. Greeson), charged with illegally rescuing two horses from a pound, waa fined 10s. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) DISMISSED. On the information of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Mr Hunter), Frederick Henry Bolting (Mr Johnston! was chargcd with ill-treating a mob of GS4 sheep by omitting to supply them with ample food and water. The case had been partly heard previously. .aiter considerable evidence had been lieard, tho Magistrate dismissed the caae. ASHBURTOS. (Before Mr V. Gr. Day, S.M.) James Frederick Xelson was fined £5 and costs ifor illegally selling a. 'bottle of whisky. William Allen was fined 203 and costs for exceeding the speed limit with a motorcar. George Carroll waa convicted and diecharged for riding a motor-cycle too fast. Mrs J. Preston and J. W. White were each fined 20s and costs for exceeding the speed limit with motor-cars. John Beilby was fined 4M 18s 6d, including costs, for breaking a railway carriage window, and misbehaving , generally while travelling in the carriage the passengers in which were, mostly ladies.
