At the Ashburton Magistrate s Court ■yesterday, two cases of broaches or tne Ashburton County Council's water-race by-laws were set down for hearing. 31 I'urnoll appeared for the County Council and Mr 3>art for the defendants, alt Dart contended that there was a courthouse at Methv-en, a magistrate visited Met liven once a- month, each of the defendants lived within a quarter of a. mile of the Methven courthouse MfJ that it was unfair and putting his clents to needless expense in to ■waste a day in attending the Ashburto Court when the whole matter could be dealt -with before a magistrate at Aletnven. Mr V. G. 3>ay, S.M. entirely concurred with Mr Dart, and decided that the eases should be heard at Methven.
