A Dunedin telegram states that Goneral Pan is improving in health, and hopes to leave there for tho North tomorrow morning. Mr "\V. Parker, of the staff of tha local Supremo Court, who has been transferred to Invereargill, leaves tomorrow to take up itis new duties. Mrs Ball, of King street, Sydenham, has receivfed w-ord that her son, Private F. V. Ball, is returning to New Zealand, in about fourteen days. He was seriously wounded in September last. Mr Frank H. Burbush, late officer i n charge of tho Auckland branch, of tho Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, and Mr H. I>. Tennent, lato lieutenant in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, have been appointed district repatriation officers for tho Auckland and Otago districts respectively. Word has been received by Mrs M. Hawke, Lingodells, Geraldine. that her son, Staff-Sergeant A. R. Ha wke, M.M., is returning about tho 20th inst._ StaffSergeant Hawke has been on active ser* .rice for four years and three months. Ho has been through both the Gallipoli and Palestine campaigns, where he won the Military Medal and a bar thereto. Mr Hugh Crawford, who for the past 114 years has acted as caretaker and ! -hiof door-keeper for Messrs Fuller's local vaudeville theatre, has resigned; his position. Mr Crawford is a very well-known figure at the .Opera House, and his retirement from the employment of Messrs Fuller will bo much noticed by vaudevillo patrols. Mr Crawford will be the recipient of a presentation from the whole staff and artists of the Opera House after tomorrow night's performance. Gunner Alan K. Hawley. son of Mr W. J. Hawley (Collector of Customs at Invereargill), who was with the artillery in the last general advance against the Germans, had the misfortune in the last week of October to be severely wounded bv shell fire. He was admitted to the American Hospital a£ Rouen. There his right leg wad amputated above the knee and a wound in the left foot attended to. Latest advice states that ho is now in Brockenhurst Hospital, seriously ill but progressing. Tennis players who have met Gunner Hawley oh the courts in various parts of New i Zealand will regret to hear of his illluck. A special meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery was held last evening to consider the resignation of tho Rev. O. Murray. The Rev. D. I>. Rodger, of Papanui, presided. Mr Murray's resignation was duo to the indifferent health of Mrs Murray. Various speakers testified to the very fine work that had been done by Mr Murray during his twelve years in charge of St. David's Church, Sydenham. Eventually it was decided to accept Mr Murray's resignation with regret, the hope being expressed that God would bless the clergyman and his family in whatever centre they might in the future settle. The Hon. "D. H. Guthrie; who will next week pay his first visit to Canterbury as Minister of Lands, has written to the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr W. H. Skinner) expressing a desire to have an opportunity of , meeting the members of the CanterI bury Land Board. Accordingly there will be a meeting of the Board next Friday, when the Minister will meet the members and discuss general matters with them ; It is saia that this is the first occasion within the memory of any of the present members of tho Land Board upon which a Minister of Lands has manifested anv desire to get into direct contact with . members of the Board.
