KOWAI PUBLIC CEMETERY.
At the annual meeting of the Kowai (Balcairo) Public Cemetery Trustees, the question of erecting a lych gala at tho entrance to the, cemetery was further discussed. The IJev. H. E. East, chairman of tho trustees, had submitted to a previous meeting a proposal that a lych gate ehould be built as a memorial to'the county soldiers fallen in the war. The proposal has been unanimously approved by the trustees, and widely endorsed throughout the county. The idea is to erect a very handsome and substantial gateway on dwarf walls of stone, and sufficiently large to serve as a mortuary chapol. The names of the fallen would be recorded on a prominent cano'pied memorial tablet. The suitableness o£ such a building on such a public site, v as commemorating those who have given their lives in the war, can hardly be questioned. The csccllent manner in which this cemetery is maintained will add greatly to the beauty of the proposed lych gate, as a fitting memorial. At the mooting on Saturday, the trustees considered many suggestions thereon, and instructed the chairman to obtain sketch p'.ans and other imoruia'bn to ba submitted to a lutme taeetics.
