Walter Lauder (Mr Johnston) was charged that, on October loth, 1017, at Codford, England, ho committed bigamy. in that, being married to on© Mary Lander, ho ■went through the form of marriage with Hilda Hoy Roud, his wifo being then alive. Ac- ! cuwd was remanded to appear at Wellington on January 23rJ, bail being allowed, 6clf in £100, and two sureties of £30 each. . CIVIL CASES. ' Ray Saunders was to pay the X.Z. Times C 6., Lid. (Mr Andrews), the sum of £15 Os C*J forthwith, in default two months' imprisonment. In the ca«c of-F. D. Kestoven (Mr Thomas) v. Thomas Tyree, claim £13 10s, debtor was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in dafault one month's imprisonment. . E. Bates was ordered to pay Joseph Hamlet, c.nd Co. (Mr J. iT. Dougall) the sum of £1 Is 3d forthwith, ill default seven days' imprisonment. ' E. C. Gardiner was ordered to pay Joseph Hamlet and Co. (Mr J. J. Dougall) the sum of £7 ISj at tho rate of 2s per week. TLUMBIXG EXPENSES. 11. Flavell (Mr Cuningham) claimed from Mrs A. Boland (Mr Howe) the sum of £i 16s for plumbing work done. Judgment wae given 'for tho plaintiff for the amount claimed with cos fa. THEFT. Henry Hogar. Foote (Mr Donnelly) was charged with the theft of a handbag and conUni«, valued at £6, the property of E. J. Hills, ar.-.l a gold watch and~chain, valued at £18 10s, tho property of J. Itosborough. Th« first charge was dismissed, and on the fecond count the accused was admitted to probation for twelve months, with a proviso that he should lie at home by 9 o'clock every night, and that he ebould refund the amount 4)f .<".3 7s 6d, tho sum for which he had pledged the stolen goods. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) DISMISSED. James S. Shackleton (Mr Thomas) was charged with the theft of carpenter's tools valued at 323 Gd, the property of G. L. Ostler. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate dismissed the case under the Ju«ticea of the Peace Act, which empowers a Mugis- | trato to dismiss, in certain circumstances, u trivial charge of theft.
