On their track. work they should secure a fair share of the stake money. Algidus and Primum, who were picked up after going a furlong by Starland, galloped five furlongs yesterday morning. The South Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, which will be held to-day, promises to provide some interesting racing, and aa visitors from Christchurch will be able to make the journey* to Timaru and back in the day it should attract a large attendance. REEFTON J.C.'S SUMMER MEETING. {PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.i REEFTON, January 15. For the second day of the Reef ton'-Jockey Club's Summer Meeting the weather was wet, and the course soft. The attendance was moderate, and the racing good. The totalisator investments were £5513, the total for the two days being £11,047, an increase of £749 on the amount for the Christmas Meeting, 1917. Denton* C. F. Mark, H. F. Nicoll, H. W. Kitchingham, and R. W. Short. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. M, Samson. VOTE OF SYMPATHY. The president referred to the death of Mr F. D. A letter was received from' Messrs Parr J and Bloomfield, solicitors, Auckland, aalung if the Board would give the matter of \V. i G. Abbott's horses -its attention. Although I they had received no official information from | the Auckland Trotting Club, they that the club had disqualified Abbott 8 horses. If such was the case, it wao a distinct hardship on the creditors of Abbott The president said that no action could be taken in the matter pending a reply from Abbott, who had been called on to show cause why he should not be dealt with for his failure to notiiy the transfer of the horses to the trustees of his estate. , Mr Marie"said that he would like to explain that there was no disqualification of Abbott's horses. There was a as to who was entitled to the stakes won by the horses at the club's Spring Meeting, and for various reasons that question had no. vet been settled. . , . The Canterbury Park Trotting reported that at its Summer Meeting Thomaa had been fined £10 for careless driving and interference. The club's action was endorsed. The New Brighton Trotting Club a soiion in
fining W. Warren £5 for injudicious use of his whip in the Summer Handicap at. the recent Summer Meeting was also endorsed. The Greymouth Trotting Club reported that at its Summer Meeting Bernie L. had been J disqualified for with Some Boy in the Railway .Handicap, and had been placed second. The club's action was endorsed. A. Dawes, who had been disqualified for life in connexion with the George Berlin-Kalgoor-lie case, wrote aeking if the Association would re-open the case, stating that he was prepared to give any information he could. The application was refused. The stipendiary steward informed the Association that at the Greymouth Trotting Club's Summer Meeting J. Spillane and F. G. Lynch had been fined £1 each for starting before time. j It was decided that the customary caution j should be administered in each case. Mr Kitcjnngliam drew attention to the discrepancy in the- fines inflicted for this offence in various parts of the Dominion, and it was decided to send a circular to the clubs on the subjcct. The receipt of the following fines was imported : —From the New Brighton Trotting Club: £5 on account of E. Berry, £1 on ac- • count of J. W. Thomas, and £5 on account ;of J. Douglas. From the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club: £1 on account of IN. L. Price, 10s on account of 'J. Bryce. [From the Auckland Trotting Club: 10a on account of W. C.' Calvert. | It was decided that J. Douglas and E. BciTy, who had been fined for starting before their time, should receive the usual caution. The Westport Jockey Club wrote dating that, at the request of the Association an enquiry had been held into the running of Prince Huon at the club's last Meeting, and a -resolution had been passed to the effect that j the horso had been ridden to the best of judgment, and had raced consistently throughout tho Meeting. The club was thanked for its explanation. PROGRAMMES AND LICENSES. Programmes passed by the executive wore approved, _ and the programmes of -the Ranfurlv. Racing Club, Waimate Plains Trotting Club,- Marlborough Racing Club, and Westport Jockey Club were passed. Licenses as recommended by the Licensing Committee were\ granted: —Claude Smith, J. M. Powell, J. D. Tither, Clarence A. Whitq, H. Lorrigan, G. Thorner, and F. J. McGregor were granted riders' licenses only. The committee recommended that the sum of £6 12s be voted out of the Provident Fund to R. Hart, and £6 to/L. C. Morrison in respect I of their accidents.
The application of W. S. Brockway for the transfer of Grattan Abbey was refused.
