AUSTRALIAN* HAIL SERVICES. Adrir-e to hand by the last Australian, mail state that tho Orient Royal Mail Line will shortly resume running to Australia. Mr David lieid, the general mareper of the line at Sydney, has received a cable intimating that two steamers will leave the United Kingdom this month. One is tho Orontes, and the otiter will 'probably bo the Osterlev. Mr Kcid explained that all the steamers of the line were requisitioned during the war, but row that liners were being released there was reasonable hope of his company securing th"? tonnage to carry on the mail, passenger, and ca-rgo service. The Messageries Maritimes Company intend to resume the shipping service with Australia ae soon as circumstances permit. M. Louis. Bricard, deputy-director of the company, has come to Australia to join th 9 French Mission- as an honorary member, end to make enquiries in connexion with shipping. He recently announced the company's intention, to recumo the service. ■ The company, he said, had lost most of th<*ir Australian fleet during the war: Of the four steamers wcll_ known in Australian ports—the Armand Behic. Australien, Polynesian, and Ville de la Ciotat—the Armand Behic had alone survived the U-boat campaign. It was at first intended to resume with sis steamers, two of which, the Sontay and the El Kantara, visited Australian waters during the war for the purpose of conveying troopi and cargo from New Caledonia. Four of the six, however, had been sunk, and tho company had now to construct a new fleet for the service with Australia. A monthly service, in which- six steamers would be engaged, was contemplated, and large boats would be built. ARRIVAL OF OVERDUE SCHOONER. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 13.
