NEXT MONTH'S DOMINION CO:N Fl!/RE-N Ciii. A meeting of the Canterbury Industrial Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. Kooms last night, Mr A. W. Jamieson, president, being in the chair, and presiding over an attendance or about twelvo members The chairman said it would be necessary to make tne arrangements regarding tho proposed Dominion Industrial Conference, wnich would take place in Christchurch on February 19th, -a)til, and 21st. . The suggested programme was adopted as fohows February 19th: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. wclcomo, chairman s address, report and balance-sheet-, and general business; 1 p.m. :■ lunch at Beath and Co.'s; 2.30 to 5 p.m.: Conieienee. February 21st would be/ ractory Day," and visiting delegates would visit those factories which would be of most interest to them. The agenda for tho Conference was then considered, and the following papers were statod to be either promised definitely .or provisionally: —'Mr L. Birks, ''Science and Industry"; Dr. Hisht, "Industry in .Relation to tho Cost of Living"; Dr. Chilton, '1 ho Manhood of the Country"; and Mr D. Sullivan "Repatriation and Industries." Other detail matters were also arranged. The following members were elected delegates to tho Conference: —Messrs J Black, Jas. Keir, C. M. Olhvier, W. W. Charters, H. Willis, and the president, ex-officio. The president was' deputed to see the Mayor, and endeavour to obtain the City Council Chambers for the Conference. . / "The president and Messrs Keir, Charters, and Drayton were, elected a committee to select the president for next A letter was received from, the Industries Committee of the House of Representatives, stating that members of the committee proposed to-tour the Dominion some time in February or March, to take evidence on the state of the industries of the Dominion, and on suggestions for furthering the existing and fostering new industries in New Zealand. The committee asked, the Industrial Association to make such arrangements as' it thought fit if it wished to give evidence before the committee on its visit to Christchurch. It was decided to instruct the existing trade committees in Christchurch to call meetings for the purpose of obtaining evidonce to submit to the visiting Industries Committee of the House. ' . , , . . The Repatriation Board wrote, stating that it was considering the appointment of District Repatriation Boards for Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago. It asked the Association to nominate three of its members who should be in thorough sympathy with feturned soldiers—for selection for appointment to the Canterbury District Board of Repatriation, as representative of the Association. One only of the three gentlemen would be elected to the Board. . , Messrs J. Keir, A. W. JamieMn, and W W Charters were nominated in accordance with the terms of the letter. The president and Mr Ollivier were appointed a committee to canvass for subscription to form a fund to support an official organiser.
