Describing the ravages of influenza in South Africa, Mr James Van Damme, in a letter dated October 21st, says: "Half the community of Langlands has already died from the disease. The dead carts went round the streets of Kimberlev, the driver ringing a bell for the householders to bring out their dead. The bodies were put into the cart with blankets and taken off to the "pit for interment. Coffins were almost unprocurable."
