Second-Lieutenant' Moore i 3 a returned soldier, who has served two years abroad. He secured the M.A. degree with first-class honours at Canterbury College, and has had experience as a teacher under the Canterbury Education Board. Ho was for 6ome time a patient at the Hanmer Springs Hospital. He has taken up his duties, Mid will be accommodated at District Defonce Headquarters. , . Mr W. H. Montgomery, Director of the Department, informed a "Prajg representative yesterday that the vocational officer would be specially on gaged in interviewing soldiers after' their arrival at a hospital, with a view; to locating them in life, and encouraging them to take ut> employment more suitable to their requirements. Out-patients would be also attended to, GOVERNMENT ACTIVITIES. (special to "the press.") WELLINGTON, January 13. The Defence Minister and his helpers are doine something with their scheme for educational and vocational training of soldiers before discharge. This work, which is in charge of Mr W. H. Montgomery and Dr* Christie, promises to develop. Two vocational officers are beintr appointed to supervise the vocational training—ono a school inspector and one a returned soldier, who has been a schoolmaster. For educational classes ready aid has been offered by trustworthy teachers and schoolmasters. The schome is going on, and there is some enthusiasm for it on the part ot those in charge of it. Whether much good will be done in the land by all these educational schemes is another question. . As the Defence Department is having vocational officers, it would soem to bo possible that all the vocational training —that after discharge as well as that before discharge—should bo under these officers in order that training may bo continuous. This proposal may yet be made, because the Repatriation Board will bo offering vocational training to discharged soldiers.
