METHODIST CHURCH.

—♦ —-— SYDENHAM. At the quarterly meeting of the Sydenham Methodist Church, the Rev. "\V. Beckett presided. The chairman referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Mr J. Brookes and Mrs Peacock, victims of the epidemic. A satisfactory balance-sheet was presented by Air J. Kuy, disclosing a credit balance for the quarter. The proposal to appoint a Simvlay School organiser for the Dominion was rejected. Tlio following appointments were made:—Representative to Conference, Mr <T. Dobbs; substitute, Mr J. Hadfield; circuit stewards, Messrs J. Kay and R. Wright; agent for "Methodist Times," Mr 13. Queere; reporter, Mr J. Hadfield. The following amounts were collected- for the year:—Foreign missions £68 13s Bd, home missions £34 IDs E-J, British and Foreign Bible Society £2 6s 7d. Mr A. Bonnington having removed from the district, he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his past services. It was decided to give the chairman a free hand in connexion with the nolicense campaign. LEESTON. The Rev. V. Laycock presided over the quarterly meeting of office-bearers of the Leeston Methodist Circuit, and there was a representative attendance. The statement of accounts showed a debit on the quarter's working, and. it was resolved that the Circuit stewards should draw up a fresh assessment to meet tho increased annual expenditure, and submit it to the officials of the different churches. In regard to ft Synod proposal that an organiser for Sunday schools and Bible classes should be appointed, it was agreed, on the motion of Mr D. Jones, that the responsibility of Sunday schools and Bible classes should rest with the resident circuit minister and officials. It was agreed, that Mr H. W. Peryman should be Sunday school visitor for the quarter, and that Mr R. Barnett should obtain from superintendents statistical and general reports to submit to the quarterly meeting. Messrs P. Chamberlain and I. W. Mawson were reelected circuit stewards, and Mr D. Jones was elected representative to Conference. It was agreed that letters of sympathy should bo sent by the chairman to member who had Buffered bereavement, and to others who were sick. It was furth- : decided to erect a brass tablet in the Leeston Church, in memory of tho late Mr John Barnett, who had taken a.very deep interest in the work of the church throughout the circuit for over forty years. The chairman and Messrs I. W. "Mawson, G. Sheat, A. Tong, "W. Bowis, P. Chamberlain, and John Heslop were appointed a committee to procure a suitable tablet, and arrange for tho unveiling. KAIAPOI. The quarterly meeting of the Kaiopoi Methodist Church was held on Thursday, tho Rev. W. Ready presiding over a fair atendnncc of members. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £14 9s Id, which was considered highly in view of the fact that services had been interfered with during the epidemic. Motions of. sympathy were passed, to Mrs Tavendale, Mrs Collins, and Mrs in their - bereavements. Mr Roberts and family, of New Brighton, were welcomed to the circuit. Messrs Ellen and Evans, Home and Foreign Mission Committee, were thanked for their sorvices. Mr Roberts und Mr Evans were elected as the Home and Foreign Misßioii for the coming year. Messrs J. H. Blackwell and W. E. Parnham, circuit stewards, were re-elected. Mr Ellen reported that the following amounts had been collected: —Home Missions, £36 lis (incomplete); Foreign Missions, £71 15s. A Temit was received from Synod regarding the appointment of an organiser for Sunday school Bible classes. Sympathy was expressed with the movement, but owing to financial difficulties, it was deferred for the present. Mr J. H. Blackwell was appointed representative to the Conference. A grant of £10 was made to the Rev. TV. Ready, as a slight token of appreciation ~?l the services he rendered during the epidemic, and it was suggested that he use it in a well-deserved holiday.
