ASSISTANT MASTERS' ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of. tho New Zealand Public School Assistant Masters' Association . W3s held at Wellington laat week. Representatives were present from Auckland, Wellington, North Canterbury, Otago, and ! Hawko's Bay. | Remits dealing with the card system as j used in the proficiency examination, superannuation payments on evening earnings, unI certificated teachers, the grading scheme, the allocation of positions on staffs of schools, the Teachers' Appeal Board, special allowance to married assistants, and salaries, were discussed and passed. The annual subscription ,is fixed ..by tho constitution was raised, so t*hat tho executive will have at its disposal the funds necessary to carry on an active and vigorous policy. The policy of the Government in making tlie profeefcion so unattractiv 0 that one out of ovory three teachers is uncertificated waa unanimously condemned, and the opinion was strongly expressed that until tho educational service of tlie Dominion offered conHitiond of pay and promotion comparable with the economic valuo and social standing the profession demands, tho prese-nt deplorable Etate of inefficiency will continue. Members expressed a generous appreciation of tho work done by tho executivo during the year, and the three chief officers wero re-elected. The following will hold office for the ensuing year: — President, Mr J. C. Euros, M.A. (Wellington) ; vice-president from the North Island, Mr A. J. Shepherd (Auckland); -vice-president from the South Island, Mr H. F. Penlington (North Canterbury); hon. secretary, Mr B. T. Blake, M.A. (Wellington); hon. treasurer. Mi G. IJ. Kidson (Wellington); non-official members, Messrs J. Miller (Wellington), R. Malcolm (North Canterbury), 11. R. Hunter (Otaeo), A. Lake (Poverty Bay), G. H. Taylor (Auckland).
