NEW BRIGHTON GALA.
Despite tiio inclemency of tiie_ weather, several hundred people wen* to Xo'.v Brighton on Saturday, the date arranged for the holding of the* Hrighton Gala. At noon it was, however, raining so hard that the Gala executive decided to postpone the function for a month. Shortly after the weather cleared up and the afternoon was compare lively pleasant. The Gala Committee did its beat ardor the circumstances to keep the visitors amused. There were the "n;erry-go-round." Highland dancing, hoop-la, stalls, etc., while the lpcal band voluntarily gave an enjoyable programme of music from the Rotunda. Though February Bth waa chosen on Saturday as tlie postponed date for the Gala, the committor met subsequently and arc now endeavouring to arrange for the Gala to be held on Saturday next. The committee will meet to-night to come to a final _ decision on the matter. The general' opinion in the borough is that, all things considered, and in epite of the uneuitableneea .of the tide on Saturday next, this date would be preferable to a longer postponement.
