ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE.
NEW ZEALANDER KNIGHTED. (By Cable.—Pr«s# Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and Cablo Ascocifttion.) LONDON, January 10. Mr F. T. Boys, London manager of the New Zealand Refrigerating Co., Ltd., and Director of Meat Supplies, has been made a Knight Commander of tho Order of the British Empire. Captain James Sims, of tbe steamer Wariida, has been made an Officer of the Older. Sir Francis Theodoro Boys, K-B.E. (Knight CoinmauUer of the British Empire), for the last two years has been Director of Meat Supplies to Great Britain and tuo Aiues. Esir Francis Boys is tho London manager of tho New Zealand Refrigerating Co., Ltd., but since his services were specially desired by the Imperial Government ho has been, dissociated irom the-business of tho company. He will, however, resume his connexion with the company when his official work la complete—probably some tirno this year. {He had the major portion of the responsibility of instituting tho year's rationing scheme, .and, the marked success of the measures taken is stated to have been largely/due to the great energy devoted by him to his work. Tiio eon of a Judge in the Indian service, he is about 48 years of age, and although not a New Zealander by birth, is well-known throughout the Dominion, having spent about 20 years in Now Zealand. He was educated at Harrow, and earno as quite a youth to New Zealand, where he spent the first few years in learning steep-farming in Hawke's Bay. He then joined the well-known firm of Nelson Bros., and was associated with their interests in both islands for j many years. He was also for some time engaged .in tho export business j in Dunedin, and during that time was representative and attorney for Sir James Ruddin, the well-known Liverpool merchant. In 1905 he joined tho service of the New Zealand Refrigerating Co.—at that time known as the Christchurch Meat Co., and acted as the company's secretary for some years under the present general manager, Mr William Murray. About nine yisars ago he loft for London to superintend the Home interests of the company, and continued in that capacity up to the time when the company was specially asked by the then Food Controller, the late Lord Rhondda, to forego his services in the public interest. A keen, all-round sportsman, and in his younger, days a very sound cricketer, he represented Otago and Southland in a combined match against the famous Australian team which toured New Zealand. Possessing a most attractive personality, the recognition of his valuable services will be thoroughly appreciated by his many friends in tho Dominion and also by the many interests in the Old Country with which ho "has been closelv associated both in his private and official careers. Tho honour is gratifying to the Dominion and to the N.Z. Refrigerating Co. in particular, who are to be congratulated on the well-deserved recognition of their London representative. '
