Sir James Allen, Acting-Prime Minister, returned to Wellington on Saturday evening. Dr. H. W. M. Kendall has been appointed a member of the War Pensions Board. Mr Hugh Hamilton, of the Geraldine staff of tho Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of transfer to N aseby. The Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Marine, arrived from the south on Saturday night, and left for Nelson yesterday morning by motor-car. Sir William Fraser, Minister of Public Works, arrived from the South by the express on Saturday, and left for Wellington tho same evening. The vacancy among tho majors on the establishment of the Now Zealand Staff Corps which was caused by the death of Major W. C. Morrison has been filled by the promotion of Captain H. C. Nutsford, at present Director of Movements and Quartering in the Quartermaster-General's department, whose rank of major has been only a temporary one. Mr A. Ferguson, formerly manager of the National Bank in Christchurch, who met with an accident in the Theatre Koyal last Tuesday at tho civic reception to General Pau and the French Mission, is, his many friends will be glad to learn, progressing satisfactorily towards recovery, at the Lewjsham Hospital. Mr Ferguson was invited to take a seat in one of the boxes, entrance to which is gained from the dress circle. In the dim light prevailing Mr Ferguson passed through the curtain giving access to the box in the belief that the floor of the bo r \ was on the same level as tho landing; unfortunately thi s is not the case, there being four rather steep steps downward, and Mr Ferguson had a nasty fall, resulting in a, simple fracture of tho right leg, a few inches above the lenee. Propped up with cushions Mr Ferguson sat out the reception and enjoyed the speeches, as much as it wa s possible in the circumstances Upon the Bontgen rays being applied, they disclosed that the fracture (which is on the leg Mr Ferguson previously had broken) is a simple one, and Mr Ferguson hopes to be about again
