AUSTRIA.
♦ = AN EFFECT OF WAR. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.a. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, January 7. Tho Vienna correspondent of the "New York World" says that the authorities have published a sensational report regarding the suffering of the people of Vienna during the war. He report points out that a large number of people lost upwards of 881b in weight during tho war. Even among tho wealthy tho average loss was 361b. During the year, 56,000 children were examined, and only 4637 were found to be healthy. The majority of the children had not grown during the war, with a result that the future mothers and fathers will consist of stunted adolescents, producing prematurely old children. The industrial districts are now filled with under-sized, old-looking youngsters who have never been young. Their wizened looks are duo largely to their all-night vigils outside meat markets, where they waited in the wor6t weather in insufficient clothing.
