THE SHIPPING TROUBLE.
NO ALTERATION. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY. January 9. There is no alteration in the shipping trouble. The New Zealand Government agent states that if the dispute continues a private firm proposes to charter a vessel to accommodate 200 passengers to Now Zealand. NEW ZEALAND*PASSENGERS RETURN. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 9. The steamer Port Lyttelton arrived from Sydney this evening with fifty Now Zealanders, who had been stranded in Australia for nearly two months. None of them had suffered financial distress as the result of their enforced stay in tho Commonwealth. THE MAKURA'S MOVEMENTS. Officials at the Wellington offico of the Union Company state that tho Press Association message from Sydney published on Saturday, stating that the crew of the Makura had been paid off and tho ship laid up indefinitely, is contrary to fact. They have been advised that it is expected to despatch the Makura for Auckland this week. COMPENSATION FOR LOSS. (By Cable.—Ptees Association. —Copyright.) (Recoived January 10th, 1.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 9. There was no development regarding the shipping trouble to-day, except that the Union Company announced that the crew of the Wairuna will be compensated for tho loss of their personal effects when that steamer was sunk by enemy action. Trouble is anticipated in securing a crew for the Ihumata, which is due to sail for New Zealand, via Newcastle.
