ORTHOPEDIC UNIT.
PROGRESS OF ARRANGEMENTS AT HOSPITAL. At present sixty soldidrs are undergoing treatment by the Orthopaedic Unit at the Ciixistciiurch Hospital, undor tho charge of Lieut.-Coionel D. fc>. Wylie. The erection of the temporary building, which is to accommodate ]0(> additional bods, is to bo commenced next month, and it is expected will be coiupletod in three months. Various sections of the Hospital devoted to "after treatment," including massage electrical baths, and curative workshops, will be in working order m about ten days. Colonel Wylie states that it is a misconception to think that there is a definite relationship between tho curative workshop treatment and vocational training The primary object of tb«;; ! ; Hospital' workshops is merely curative and the Orthopaedic Unit cannot under-: take to produce tradesmen in _ tho time at their disposal with a patient. A patient will be put to that work which will yiold the best rosults from a curative point of view, but if, consistently with that, it is possible to give a man the class of work to which he has been accustomed, it will be done. Colonel Wylie and his staff are housed m a suite of offices in a portion of the old Hospital buildings adjacent to the Chalmers Ward, now devoted to orthop.tdic purposes. Colonel states that the equipment of the unit from the point of view of material is not yet complete, as quite a considerable quantity of . apparatus has stall to arrivo from Great Britain. Very complete arrangements are being irtade to help tho injured Soldiers back to health and strength. Curatiyo workshops, including those intended for both woodwork and metal-work, have been erected and equipped with benches - and various apparatus. The pleasant surroundings or the Hospjtal grounds should. prove a factor in restoring to health and strength the men who have suffered in nerve and limb in the service of their country.
