An American psychologist, Dr. Henry A. Cotton, has recently published a report, in which ho tells how he has successfully treated insanity by extracting infected teeth. . As examples of the success of his treatment two cases are cited: — - The? first case is that of a woman thirty-six years old. She was admitted to an asylum after having four previous attacks of mental disease. Occasionally she was violent. t After spending six years in the institution, and growing progressively worsgv an infected tooth was extracted and fine regained a nonnal mental condition. * The second case is that of a man, aged 40 years, who had always boen normal and healthy until the autumn of 1917 when he became irritable, faultfinding, and so became involved in domestic trouble. • In December, 1917, he wandered to Chicago in a confused state. He was apprehensive, thinking he had killed someone and was going to be killed. A cappod molar was removed that was badly infected, and two days later his mental condition cleared up.
