COUNTY COUNCILS.
EYRE. At the last meeting of tho Evro County Council there were present—Mr F. G. Horrell (in the chair), Messrs Ward, Mcintosh, Dixon, and Rich. The Returning Officcr reported that Mr R. O. Dixon had been olected unopposed for the Eyro Riding in place of the late Mr John H. Power. Mr. Rich drew attention to tho danger of the encroachment of the "JVaimakariri river at Eyre ton, and statci that it would bo very nearly. criminal neglect not to take more direct action. He moved: "That the Minister of Public Works be requested to immediately obtain the definito opinion of the Publio Works Department as to tho best course to pursue." The Minister of Internal Affairs notified tho Council that the Government had conferred upon it the po-vers of a borough in regard to the raising of a loan for the electric reticulation of the Eyre Riding. Also that the Council would have to make its own arrangements as to tho peace celebrations. The Publio Works Department forwarded plans, with levels, of the encroachment of the Waimakariri at Eyre ton, also requesting ' the Council to eupply a map of the country likely to be directly or indirectly affected by the overflow of the Waimakariri. It was resolved that the information be forwarded. It was resolved that the election of chairman take place previous to the next ordinary meeting of the Council. Mr James Wright, Con Us Island road, •wrote to ascertain the reason why his application for eleptrio power and light had been ignored. It weuj resolved that a copy of his letter be forwarded to the P.W.D. Electrical Branch.
