THE GERMAN BELLS.
THEIR FATE STILL UNDECIDED. When the bells taken from tho old Lutheran Church in .Worcester Btreet were broken up and melted down, Mr Peter Trolove, of this city, suggested to the Government that the metal might be fashioned into a Roman shield for presentation to tho town of Verdun. The shield, he * suggested, should bear an inscription based ufoii the famous "lis ne passeront pas" of Petain and his men. Mr Trolove sends us the following letter he has receivod from the Hon. G. W, Russell. Minister in Charge of the Public Trust Office,' dated December 20th:— "The Right Hon. the Prime Minister has roferrod to me your letter of the 2nd instant. In reply thereto, I have to inform you that your valuablp suggestion has been recorded, and will be duly considered with others when the disposal of the ingots is finally dealt with by Cnbinet. Thanking you for the interest you' have taken in the matter,—l have, etc." In communicating the Minister's letter Mr Trolove writes to ub as follows: "From the' enclosed, those of your readers who are interested in th«* fate of the bells will see that a decision is still pending. With whom does the decision lie? To whom do the iwuotfc belong? To settle the ownership question I would like to see the citr purchase the metal from the Puoiic Trustee. Then the citizens could decide what should be done with it "
