Burgess as second officer of the Maori. Mr J. Gray, engineer on-the Mararoa, has signed off the vessel's articles. The arrival of the Monowai at, this port •is now expected to-morrow. The vessel is coming from Auckland, via Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington. She leaves Lyttelton tomorrow for Dunedin, from whence she should return here on Thursday next. ■ The Canterbury Shipping Co.'a steamer Oakn called at Lyttelton yesterday to load for Wellington and Wanganui. The vessel come from southern ports. The Putiki is expected in port to-day with general cargo from the south. She will load general merchandise here for • Wellington, sailing north this evening. The Wootton ■ will make another trip '• to Wellington before going on. the Lyttelton slip for oloaning and painting. She is expected to leave, this port, northward bound, this evening. The Kamona, which is unloading coal from Westport at Lyttelton is expected to sail tomorrow for Timaru, when she will proceed to Port Chalmers to undergo survey. The Duquesne should be ready for departure from Lyttelton about .the 20th instant. She b&Ub for Port Pirie, and thence to the United Kingdom. It is unlikely that she will return to New Zealand in the near future. The Union Company's Bteamer Karamu, which arrived-here on' Tuesday with general cargo from Napier and Wellington, leaves Lyttelton to-day for the West Coast. The Orepuii, having completed her loading of general cargo at Lyttelton yesterday, sailed in the afternoon for Greymouth, where she will load timber for Lyttelton. The Corinna will probably be among next Wednesday's arrivals at Lyitelton. She will bring cargo from Dunedin, and will come via Oamaru and Timaru. The Corinna will take in cargo at Lyttelton for discharge at Nelson and New Plymouth. The Russian four-masted barque Marlborough Hill, 2363 tons, left New York on December 7th with a full general cargo for Sydney. The Norwegian barque Janna has sailed from New York for Sydney. She is loaded with general cargo, and is to the agency of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line. The Norwegian barque Amaeis has sailed from St. John (New Fonndland) for Sydney. She is loaded with general merchandise. A recent arrival at Auckland was the threemasted American Bchooner John M. Winthrop with a cargo of case oil from San Francisco. The trip lasted 63 days. Captain Mercer is in charge of the sailer. A scheme has been instituted in England for the intensive training of youths between <16 and 17 years of age for as tailors and firemen iu the mercantile marine. A committee composed of representatives of the Board of Trade, Ministry of Shipping, Shipping Federation, and National Sailors' and Firemen's Union has been appointed to initiate and supervise the scheme. . The New Zealand Shipping Company advise to-day that the Ruahine is duo at Auckland on the 18th inst. from the United Kingdom. The New Zealand and African Steamship Company announoe . that the Maunganui :s due at Auckland to-day from England. The vessel will be loaded back to the United Kingdom by the New Zealand Shipping Comhas been received by the Shaw, SaviU, and Albion Company tnat the liner Burma sailed from Glasgow on December 13th for Now Zealand ports, via Australia. She will call at New Zealand main ports. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the liner Oxfordshire is at present bound from Liverpool to New Zealand, via Colombo. She left Liverpool on December 19th.
