RACING AND TROTTING! NOTES. (BT "Lookeh-ON.") The work at Eiccarton yesterday was not of an interesting nature. Margerino, with a fait weight up, was given a working gallop over a mile and a quarter. She was 6till afterwards, and looks as if she has a slight touch of kidney trouble. Euripos and Judaea ran five furlongs together without being extended, while Post Haste and Once More were separately sprinted over short courses. The Bonny Glen—Judith filly in R. Derxett's stable was too good for Sisyphus in a dash over throe furlongs. She is growing into a shapely filly. Miss Mimic, tho two-year-old half-sister to Subterfuge, was galloped four furlongs; and shaped well. She is building up, and should race well in the autumn. M. Hobbs's team for tho 'Wellington Summer Meeting will probably consist of Punka, Tortrix, Favorita (tho Marajax filly), ana "Winter Cherry. Yesterday Punka, who was assisted by "Winter Cherry over the last eight, galloped ten furlongs in very fair time, maintaining a solid pace all the way, and pulling up welL. | H. Ellis worked his team in pairs. Link Up was too good for Loch Weir over half a mile, run in fair time, while Tyne gave Jeannot a beating over a mile. R. Longley i 3 getting Kocsian into shape, and he should raoo well in tha autumn, t Stamboul, who has not boon raced for years, is a regular attendant on the tracks, and is showjpg that ho has not lost his pace during the spell. Wardancex is doing steady work, but he will not be ready for some time. Sing of the Valley' returned from the West Coast on Monday evening, and Happy Captain comes on from Wellington, this morning. There is plenty to interest followers of racing in this week's issue of the "Referee," as there are full accounts of the holiday race meetings, as well as comments by Speotator, Wayfarer, and Looker-On on the form shown at the principal fixtures. Antisthenes writes on Hack Winnings and Painless Penalties, tho Rook contributes Scratching, and there is a good budget of news from the resident correspondents in various parts of tho Dominion. Lord Rose did not return homo, but joined S. Groat's team in Auckland. More than likely tho son oi Lord Elmo will be sent to Australia to lontest the Sydney Thousand, which is run in March.
