A surprising sign of German ingenuity was found lately, by an English officer, in tho possession of a dead German (says a writer in the "Daily Chronicle";, it is a New Year card of good wishes, carried about by the soldier for many a month. On the reverse is a print of Lady Butler's "Charge of the Scots Grej's at Waterloo." But the bearskins of our men have been adroitly changed to the spiked helmets, the German "pick el'nau ben," and in place of our standard flies the German flag. All the rest is correct, man for mail, and horse for horse. Joy-bells decorate the frame. k.nd lo! a fmo German cavalry chargo is before us. - A list of honours and decorations won by members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, compiled by the Militia Department, shows that 40 Victoria Crosses, the highest honour ob-. tainable, have been awarded to soldiers of the Dominion; 491 have won the Distinguished Service Order, 1657 the Military Cross, 6549 N.C.O.'s and men have been given the Military Medal, corresponding to the Military Cross, which is given to officers, and 1028 have won the Distinguished Conduct Modal. Canadians mentioned in despatches number 3333. 0f» foreign conferred upon Canadians, the Croix do <Guenr»t heads the list in point of number, being awarded to 305 members of the C.E.F.; the Cross, of St. George (Russian) was given to 102 men from Canada, and the Medaille Milixaire to 45; the Italian Jironze Medal for military valour was granted to 20 Canadians.
