ANNUAL REPORT. Tho report to bo submitted to tho annual meeting of .tho Canterbury Society of Arts states that members who are servihg their country have been made honorary members during their period of service. Tho annual exhibition was held during March and April, and tho works exhibited wore well up to the standard. The sales, although not so good as in years.prior to the war, wero very satisfactory. Although rents havo been reduced for all patriotic functions, tho receipts from lettings of tho Gallery show an improvement on the .paat year. During the exhibition the Red Cross had facilities granted to them for conducting afternoon teas, and they also participated in half tho proceeds of the art union. The net result, .as shown by tho balance-sheet, was X 209 10a. During the month of October M. Willy Rogers and S. R. Bigazzi, representing the French Government, paid a vieit to Christclvurcb with an exhibition of paintings and sketches by French solders and sculpture by Italian soldiers, the purpose of the exhibition being tho raising of funds for the French soldiers blinded in the war. The cqjincil extended these gentlomen a hearty welcome, and lent them the whole of the Gallery, together with lightins, e'-c., free of coat. By means of this exhibition about £1400 was raised for tho fund. Tho council record their appreciation of the gift of a marble bust by Professor F. Saul, donated by Mr Geo. Humphreys, also of a mnrWe statu" bv P--Bor-tone and a pictlure by Jonas, subscribed for by the public and given by the citizens of Christclruroh to tho Society. In nccordanoe with tho Articles of Association, the following officers retire :—President, Mr X. L. ■Macbeth; vice-presidents, Sir John Denniston, Mr TV. Kc«v»: n Gurnsoy, E. C. Huie, A. E. E. Relph; hon. treasurer, Mr W. J. Moore; lion, auditor, Mr H. Bieknell. All eligible, if nominated, for re-election.
