PERSONNEL OF THE MISSION.
The members of the Mission who ar» visiting Now Zealand, and arrive in Ohristchurch this morning, aro as follows: — General Paul Mary Ciesar Gerald Pau. Grand Croix, Legion of Honour, Medaille Militaire, a veteran of tho Franco-Prussian war of 1870, in which he lost his right arm. Ho is a member of the War Council of Franco. He was on the retirod list when the war broke out in August, 1914, but demanded that ho bo allowed to rejoin. He was offered tho supremo command of tho French Army, but asked that the honour should bo given to Marshal Jolfre, and accoptcd, instead, the command in Alsace, where he drove the Germans back. He then took over the 6th Army on the Marne, and shared in the great fighting on that froift, and subsequently went to the assistance or tho Belgians. Later on he spent a yoar in Russia, at the invitation of tho late Czar, reorganising the army. He hns since been sent on important missions to various countries. Although past his 70th birthday, General Pau has 1 tho vigour of a man in tho prime of I ]jf e Dr. Andn? Siegfried. Military Medal (Goneral Secretary to the Mission), Professor in the School of Political Science, Paris, is paying his b o««h1 visit to New Zealand, having been here t in 1904. As tho resu.lt of nis -gations and observations, he published his book, "Domocracy in Now Zealand," of which a translation was subsequently issued, with a preface by Mr... W. Downie Stewart, M.P. He has also published works on Canada, and on Edward Gibbon Wakefield. M le Commandant D Andre, Gross of the Legion of Honour, A.D.C. # to , General Pau, iB a soldier by profession. He fought at the Marne, and was hvounded, and subsequently spent two years iu? a prisonor of war in Germany. M. Louis Leclerq-Motte, _ D.C.M., Croix do Gnerre, of Roubaix, wool manufacturer. M Henri Corbiere. of Normandy, a noted breeder of cattle and horsey, ana an agricultural expert. M. Marcel Matthiou, of Lyons, silk manufacturer. M. Georges Bodor, secretary and ao- , conntant of the Mission. Mr Meadows Smith, for twenty year# a member of the British Consular fitfin France, who was attached to the Mission by the British Government, i* not with the party, having stayed •in Australia.
