man. . Referring to tbo visit of inspection paid by members ot th& Board latft month, the chairman stated thai thoy had found the rcseivoa in good order. The ovoreeer h report, wnich was adopted, stated that einco tho previous meeting of the Board there had been two small flood® but no damago had bcoa dono to ths works, And ■ there had been no change in the oouiaa o£ the river. At presant Uw river was lower than it had been ior soino time. A larg© groin nc&r .the, Empiro oridgo hud Loen completed at a coat of £108. . . The decision arrived at 011 tho visit of inspection respecting tho putting in of the groin, was formally confirmed. _ # Mr Bowdon considered that the. Waimairi County Council ought to pay half tho ccat of the groin, which was designed to protect tho b?idgo. Ho W.-V3 of opinion that the •ruin would make matters worse, and the \Vaimairi County Council ehould have been asko' 1 to consult witli tho Board with a view to putting in » proper protective work.
