WATER POWER.
' . ♦ A ACTIVITIES IN NORTH ISLAND. ; Although the Electric Power Boards Bill only became law during tlie roccnc session of Parliament, it as already claiming attention, in the North Is- * land. Particularly is this the case in the Waikato and King Country districts, where movements have Leon inaugurated in the boroughs of Hamilton, To Awamutu, To Kuiti, and Cambridge for the constitution of power districts. The first proposal to take , shape comes from Te Awaireutu, and a conference a week or two hence will conclude the necessary preliminary negotiations. About thirty delegates from local bodies and public , institutions within tho district , proposed to be constituted—embracing . 300 square miles of territory—liavo been appointed to attend this conference, the idea being to bring electric development and control of the district as a whole under tho one Board of Management, thus doing away with tho multiplication of controlling bodies hitherto found in town and country. Tho boundaries of all the four districts, having their administrative centres in Hamilton, To Awamutu, Te Kuiti;- and Cambridge respectively, will bo contiguous, so that a continuous area of .approximately 2500 square miles will be made operative under the recent legislation. The districts are within striking distance of tho Hora . Hora pewer Ration on tho Waikato liver,. the purchase of which from, the "Woilu Gold-mining Company is now, contemplated by the Government. j
