FRENCH MISSION.

VISIT TO CANTERBURY,

The Acting-Primo Minister, Sir James Alien, who has been spending a few days at Mount Cook Hermitage, comes north this evening, and goes on to Wellington, whore he will meet General Pau and the members of the French Mission,, and will leave Wellington with them on Monday for Canterbury. -The arrangements in connexion with the visit of General Pau and the French Mission to Canterbury, so far as they are at present known, are as follows: — Tuesday—Arrive from Wellington; pay official calls upon his Excellency the Governor-General, and upon the Mayor (Mr H. Holland). Wednesday —Visit Longbeach, and return to Christchurch the same day. Thursday—Leave for Akaroa, where they will spend the day. Friday—-Return to Christchurch. The members will bo the guests of his Excellency the Governor-General at dinner. Saturday—The Mission will give a return luncheon to his Excellency the' Governor-General. Leavo in the evening for Wellington. The Canterbury Chambpr of Commerce has arrangements in train fpr a meeting between the members of the Chamber and of tho Mission. The date has not yet been fixed. t In order that General Pau and the members of the, Fronch Mission should have an opportunity of viewing tho magnificent panorama of the Canterbury Plains and the Southern Alps, Mr H. G. Ell, 'M.P., has written to Mr B. M. Wilson, Manacer of tho Tourist Department, suggesting that the members of the French Mission should be invited to luncheon at the Dyer's Pass Rest House during their stay in Christchurch. j

TO VISIT DUNEDIN. (SPECIAL TO "THE PBESB.") DUNEDIN, January 3. Now that the Niagara's sailing from Auckland has been postponed until about tho 22nd inst.. it is understood that arrangements will be made for the French Mission to visit Dunedin after their trip to Akaroa. WANGANUI RIVER TRIP. (FEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) TAUMARUNUI, January 3. The French Mission will arrive here at two o'clock to-morrow morning. The visitors have been accommodated in a special "throw off" sleeper, and will remain at tho station until 6 a.m., when they will leave for the boat landing for the trip down the Wanganui river. The party will bo received and farewelled by the Mayor, borough councillors, and general public at tne landing, which has been lavishly decorated for the occasion.
