MEETINGS AND SOCIALS.
SOCIAL EVENING. .The Upper Riccarton and Sockburn Bur;g«ses' Association and friends held a social evening in the Oddfellows' Hall on Monday, the occasion being a welcome home to Serge&nts Kidman and McLachlan, of the Main Body, and Private® Reece, Raxworthy, Macintosh, Bowman, Mullins, and Douglas. Mr 0. Forsyth presided oyer a ■very large audience, which, gave the men a good welcome , home. Apologies wore received from Mr S. A. Staples, Privates Bowman, Mullins, and Mcintosh for absence. Mr G. Witty, M.F., welcomed the soldiers, paying a very high tribute to the work they had done, and also referred to those who would never return. The audience stood in silence ae a mark of respect to their memory. During the evening items were contributed by tho Misses Fox, Rattray, and Cotter, Messrs Carver and Townaend. The hall was prettily decorated ■with flags under the supervision of Mrs J. Smith, and the proceedings concluded with a dance, tho accompanist being Miss Colter. PIONEER LODGE. 'At the half-yearly meeting of the Pioneer Lodge, No. 1, U.A.0.D., A.D. Bro. W. Desmond • presided. The Bards reported on the ' sick xinder their care, and the sum of £51. 30a waa passed for sick pay. The trustees •nd Hall Committee reported having sold he *1 all and shop for removal, and the land wd been put up for sale. The balance-shcet ihowed the funds to have risen from £7201 (ss to £7280 6s 5d during the half-year. Sick pay amounted tp £250 lfis 4d, and funeral benefits to £140; the membership was 261. The election of officers resulted as follows:— - J.P.A., Bro. W. Desmond; A.D., Bro. J. leaser; V.A., Bro. A. Lemmon; secretary, Bro. S. Kennedy; treasurer, Bro. T. Marriot; •\LS., Bro. H. E. Smith; 1.G., Bro. E. 'AVellum; 0.G., Bro. J. Foulds; A.D.B.'s, Bros. Neate and Johnston; V.A.D.B.'s, Bros. .Baker and Watson; auditors, Bros. Morrison •nd Baker; trustee, Bro. H. E. Sfnith; D.P., Bro. J. Walson; D.G.L. representatives, Bros. W. J. W. JTeate, H. E. Smith, and T. Marriott, sub. representative, Bro. F. Johnston ; dispensary delegates, Bros. S. Kennedy and H. E. Smith; delegate to TT.F.S. Council, Bro. H. E. Smith; Hall Committee, . Bros. J. Bowers, T. J. Gledhill, S. Kennedy, F. Johnston, and H. E. Smith. After the business tho Lodge adjourned, and tho health of Bro. H. E. Smith was honoured, if having, celebrated his silver wedding on December 14th, and beon in office continuously for tho past 27 years.
