VITAL STATISTICS.
AUCKLAND FIGURES. (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, January i. The outstanding features of the vital statistics for the city of Auckland for last year are the great increase in the number of doatlis and the falling-off in the number of births, as compared with the previous year. A substantial decrease in the number of marriages is also recorded. The deaths during last year totalled 2386, as against 1428 in 1917, an increase of 958. The extent to which the epidemic was responsible for this is plainly shown in the figures for November and December, deaths in those months numbering 964 and 239, as compared with 118 and 137 in the previous year. The decrease in__births is 303, the numbers being 2875 for 1918 and 3178 for 1917. Last years marriages totalled 1045, a decrease of 90, compared with 1917. WANGANUI, !
