A Sydney message states that Mr Samuel Hordero has been created a Knight Bachelor. Thft death is announced at San I>2S Sliforn'fa, of Dr. Felix T<mner, who became famous for fasting forty two days. The Hon. T. M. Wilford,. who has been on holiday in Timaru, mtends to leave for Wellington to-morrow in order to meet the French Mission. A cable message to the Australian papers states that it is reported that Viscounties will shortly be c on f en_ e d upon Sir Douglas Haig and Admiral Sir David Beatty. Mr and Mrs L. Clifford and Miss M. L. Clifford, of Wellington, who have been abroad for some time, returned to New Zealand by th& Niagara on Sunday. Major J. W. Findlay and Captain J. L. Findlay, sons of Sir John Jjindlay, M P. for Hawke's Bay, who have been on active service, returned to New Zealand, on furlough, by the Niagara. They were acoompanied by Lady Findlay. Mr Noel Nelson, who for some time past has been manager of the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, left Wellington for_ Colombo bv the Dorset, en route to Singapore, where ho is. to act as the company s representative. Our London correspondent states that Mr Massey's announcement that the Prince of Wales will visit New Zealand after the war has attracted a good deal of attention in England. General satisfaction is expressed that the Prince, like his fathej. and his grandfather, will have an opportunity of seeing a good deal of the Empire before coming to the Throne. Lieut. J. Oliphant, M.0., of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, was a passenger by the Niagara from Vancouver on Sunday. He left New Zealand with the rank of sergeant in the Main Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, but shortly after his arrival m Egypt obtained a commission in tie Imperial Forces, with which he saw service on Gallipoli Peninsula and in France. Lieut. Oliphant is a son of Mr Peter Oliphant, of Auckland.
