PIGEON FLYING.
« AUCKLAND RACE. . The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club flew oS a race from Auckland last' month. Sixteen birds were-sent, the property of eix owners. They were liberated at noon in good weather, and a slight northerly wind. Owing to the lateness of time of liberation the birds did not put in appearance till the following morning. The race proved to be a Buccc6sful one, the first bird beating tho previous record time by one hour. Tho winner of first and special prizes was F. Kingsford's Perlot, which traversed the distance of 480 miles 1624 yards air-line in 13hra SOrain 9seo. The following is the velocity recorded by each owner's biid:—F. Kingsford's Perlot, 1044 yds per minute; E. Fuchs's La Brique, 969 yds per minute; J. Ship ton's Royal Emperor, 830 yds per minute; A. Gerard's No. 224, 753 yds per minute. The winner will also hold for one year the club's valuable challenge trophy for Auckland races.
