BILLIARDS. The "Flying 50" billiards handicap at tho Lyttelton Club Hall this week resulted in a ■win for R. Collins from J. T. Brioe by 6 points. CONCERT AT ALLANDALE. An entertainment in aid of the Lady Liverpool Fund, was held on Wednesday evening in the Allandalo Hall, there being a largo attendance of residents. Iho programme was supplied by a concert party under the direction of Miss Adeline M. Goodman, of Chiistchurch, items being contributed by Misses Goosemau, Sproston, Law, Mrs Sproston, Messrs Bartlett, Barns, and T. C. Hatton (Lyttelton). The audience showed their appreciation by frequently calling for encores. At tho conclusion of tho concert a • girl-queon contest was held, the preparation having been carried out by Mr W. A. Carpinter. The following candidates participated in the competition:—Miss Alma Bamford, (Governor's Bay), Miss Edna Small (Allandale), and Misa Janie Manson (Teddington). Each of tho three_ prinoesses stood at tho .head of a paper trail in the hall, upon which donations were placed. Tho contest resulted in-a win for the Governor's Bay candidate, Miss Alma Bamford, from the Teddington representative, Miss Janie Manson. The total proceeds from tho "Copper Trail" amounted to nearly £70.

MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Before Messrs W. Cleaiy and F. Knights, J.P.'s, a arst offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged. A. Falson (Mr Sargent) was charged with having deserted from a schooner at Lyttelton on May 27th. Counsel stated that Falson had signed articles on a certain vessel as cook, and had left the vessel on arriving in port to go to the hospital. When he returned to his ship, however, the captain asked him to do work on thei deck, another cook having been engaged. Falaon, who was a Maltese, and a restricted alien, then asked permission to go to the Superintendent of Mercantile to lay a complaint, and the captain told him he could go away and stay away. The man had subsequently gone to work at Ran«ntata,- where he accidentally shot himself in the foot, necessitating his removal to tho Timaru Hospital. The ve?s-l in question put out into the stream in Lyttelton yesterday, and' the man was practically dragged from the hospital to answer a charge of desertion. , Senior-Sergeant Jackson stated that the hospital authorities would not have allowed the man to bo removed had it been thought this his removal would be attended by injurious results. Mr H. J.
