RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.

Tho fortnightly meeting of . the Returned . Soldiers' Association was presided over by Mr H. 11. Cotton. Thirty-nine new members were oleoted. One application for membership was declined, and eeven transfers granted.' A letter from the Amalgamated Society of Engineers led to a considerable discussion on the fact that various employers, more particularly in the North Island, were, when employing returnod soldiers, taking into consideration the amount of their pensions when aescesing their wages. It was decided that tho local Association should take the matter in hand to prevent any such injustice in Chriatchurch. It noa reported that, tho New Zealand executive in Wellington Tvas giving its attention t-o the trouble. - j ' A letter referring to various matters in connexion with the Second Division League wa9 received, and further consideration wa* held over till a future meeting. Various alterations to the Association's constitution, ae suggested by the recent conference in Auckland were approved. Chief amongst theso was a clause to the cffoct that all qualified nurees of . the Colonial and Imperial Forces, who, had been on activo service should be admitted as honorary members of tho Association, a special badge to bo issued and controlled by the headquarters of the New Zealand Association, the cost to be borne by the local Associations. Tho membership clause was also altered. The enemy alien question was discussed at some length, and it was stated that before long there would undoubtedly be some action taken in which the Aeeociation would take an aesivs part. Messrs Simpson and Williams and Mc«3tb D. Craig and. Co. were appointed the local agents for ' Quick March," tho official journal of the 2sor,- Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association. A cub-coai mi tte«". consisting of Messrs Edgur, Hayes, McCallum, and Green woe p.et up in connexion with this year's Anzac Ball. A gift of a mounted "royal" (steg's head) waa received with thanks from Mr Torolinson, of FeirJalton.
