It is understood that Master Boris and Sweet Tipperary are to race in Sydney, and • Clarke will go across to ride them. After seeing Ormesby win on Saturday, the Hastings trainer, V. Colello, purchased the Birkenhead gelding for his principal patron, Mr H. A. Russell. It is reported that H. Gray will ride Hydras in' the■ Winter Cup. Owing to the illness of J. J. Lambess Ibex and Kauri King have done little or no work since the Napier Park meeting (says the Auckland writer, "Whalebone"). Under the circumstancc3 Mr Gibbons is not disposed to send the pair on to Christchurch for the National meeting, but nothing will be definitely decided until Lambess is convalescent. The successful cross-country horseman, Stan Reid, will be riding at the South Canterbury Hunt Steeplechase Meeting next week. Mr Ormond Cooper, whose death occurred on Saturdav last, as the result of injuries received in a motor accident in Wellington on the previous Wednesday, was well-known in racing circles. Bryce has nominated Cathedral Chimes, Mintson, Chid, Matchlight, Hectorata, Caltorjj Lord Roanchild, Madam Shaw, Cello Sydney Wilkes, Some Boy, RothclifE, Beckom, and lnwood for the Metropolitan August Meeting. Sherwood is one of the latest arrivals at Oakhamptori Lodge, and will be seen un<ler silk at Addington next month. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has received excellent nominations for its August meeting, which takes place on Wednesday and Friday, August 14th and 16th. The first day's total is 194, and the second 150, the aggregate of 344 entries for the sixteen events giving an average of over 21 per race.
