HIGH PRICES FOB FAT SHEEP. (by ocb commebcial editob.) There were small entries in almost s.ll departments and a moderate attendance. Fat cattle' were in fairly good supply, both as to numbers and quality. Prices were firm ft la to rates, but several, lots were parsed as vendors had raised their reserves. Tho yarding of fat sheep was a very small one, and not more than enough to fill four races. There tvas a eharp advance in pricey estimated at 5a to 8s per head on late rates. Tho few fat hoggets offered also sold well, and store sheep were in Rood demand. There was a weaker demand for store cattle and dairy cows. Kat pigs cold well, but there ivas a limited demand for stores. STORE SHEEP. There' was a sum 11 yarding of stores, mostly locally bred, there- being only a fow lines of oversea sheep. Thcro was an improved demand, competition being more free for forward wethero, vr-d owes and hoggets were also firmer. Tha rangrc of price® was: — Four and sis-tooth ewea to o£s. Six and eight-tooth cwea to 38s. Two and four-tooth wethers 2f>s 5d to 32s Id Four aiid 6ix-tooth wethers to 33s 6d. Ewe lambs to -Is 9d. VTether lambs to Ola Id. Mixed sex lamba to 17s Id. The following wore the sales: — Ewes: 50 at 16s 4d, 67 four and sis-tootli at 3Gs, 43 sound-mouthed at 17s 6d, 87 six and eight-tooth at 3Ss, 47 failing mouthed at Us 7d, 270 sound-mouthed' at 33s 6d, 47 failing mouthed at 18a 3d, 63 six-tooth at 17s. Tho yarding of fat sheep was an unusually small one, four races being barely filled, and there were come prime line© of wethers on offer. Thero was a very keen demand on account of tho short supply, and prices showed a marked advance, estimated at anywhere- from 5s to 8s per head. ! VEALERS. The rarcling of fat calves, although rather larger than that of last week was comparatively sin a l .], and the average quality was about on a par with recent market. All eize3 vrero represented,' the entry including soma well grown' animals of primo quality. ■ On account of the -very limited supply the demand was' particularly keen, ana high prices ruled. Quotations are:— Runners, £6 17s 6d to £7 15s. Good veajers, £3. 2s to £G. Fair vealers, 36s to 5Ps. Small and inferior sorts, 6s to 40s. STORE CATTLE. The store cattle yarding was mainly made up of four pens of three-year-old steers and three pens of dry cows, all more or less in rough; condition. There was not much demand and. prices were easier. The range was:— Calv.es, £3 15s. Three-year 6teers to £10 lie. Dry cows, £5 to £9 7s 6d. DAIRY COWS. The entry of.dairy cows was a limited one and the quality of the bulk of the animals offered was indifferent, good cows being the exception and not the rule. The competition was not so keen as of late, and a number were passed in, especially late calvore. Cows sold at £8 to £21 10s, and heifers £6 lis to £15, according to quality. • PIGS. Fat pigs were 'in small supply, and the average quality was only medium. The demand was good,' especially for porkere, the price of which showed an advance. Quotations are': — ' ' Chopperris, £4 10s £8 lis. Extra heavy baconers to £6 ISs. Heavy baooners, £a '10s to £& ss. Lighter baconers, £1 10s to £5 ss, equal to BJd per lb. Heavy'porkers', £3 10s to £8 15s. Lighter porkers, £2 15s to £3 os, equal to 9Jd .to 103. . Stores were in limited supply and the demand was markedly weaker than last week.
