A wounded officer who recently returned from the front tells tho following story: —During the Gorman push a sporting colonel told his men he woukl give them a sovereign for every German they killed. A eergeant.and a pnjate were" sent out to reconnoitre. They separated. Presently the private came scrambling back through the undergrowth to the pre-arranged meeting place, "forty thousand of 'em to kill," he said in a tense whisper, "ana only two of U£ to sh&ro the money.
