Coleman (.president) occupying the eliuir. The following new members were e;ic-ictl: —Messrs "W. Town ley, R. W. Lo-Mihead, A. J. Blakeley, D. J. Doak, E. "Wilson, D.l>. Marfarlane, H. Brown, C. Forbes, and J. H. Hadler. Messrs X>. Boyce, A. Blakely, W. Scoon, and D. J. I>oak were elected to tho committee. It was decided, as Mr J. D. AYyllie had won the challenge cup outright, to purchase another cup. The schedule, as revised, was adopted. Class stewards were appointed as under: —Draughts: Messrs F. A. Busch, J. C. Croft, W. Henderson. A. H. ilwsoh, J*}. A, Payre, and W. H. Hale. T.iptlit horses: Messrs J. Fleming, D. Boyce, A. J ; "Watson, and J. 11. DaUon. Carriage classes: Messrs T. Retallick, X. Parsons, C. M. Bruce, and W. A. Kolcher. Cobs and ponies: Messrs J. Munro, C. Hadler, and F. Stanton. Home produce: Messrs J. V. Harrison and C. Wvlde Brown. Sheep: Messrs A J. Blakely, 3>. J. Doak, and J. Harneiss. Cattle: Messrs J. H. James and L. A. Johns. Dogs: Mr H. H. Hadler. Notice was given by Mr Hale to rescind the motion fixing the prize-money by scale, and to determine the method at the next meeting of the Association. It was resolved to give the net proceeds of the show to the local Red Cross Fund. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs B. S. Jordan and Mr J. Turner, who recently sustained losses at the front. The president, presented the challenge cup to Mr J. D. "VYyllie. AMBERLEY. There was a large attendance at the Broomfield schoolroom on Friday evening to welcome home Corporal E. Stackhouse. Mr R. Hunter, on behalf of th e Broomfield residents, handed Corporal StaekhoUsc a Maltese cross suitably inscribed. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs T. Mason.

The usual features are also present, and this number is one of the best yet issued. OXFORD. On Thursday afternoon, when Mr li. W. Comyns, coal merchant, was breaking some coal, a pieco llew up and struck him in the eye, seriously injuring it. He was attended by Dr. Bagley, who ordered his removal to the Hospital. Owing to tho impassable state of the roads for motor traffic, he was taken to Bennetts by Mr W. 0. Jamiesou on a trolley; from there he was taken to town by motor-cycle by Mr H. G. Hawke. TUAHIWI A well-attended meeting of tho Ladies' Reception Committee was held in the Council Chambers, Mrs Flutey in tho chair. It was decided to augment tho funds of the committee by holding, a fancy and native dress ball. It was further resolved to again start a series of ouchro tournaments. A public meeting, held later in the afternoon, agreed to forward £20 towards the cost of the 6000 mutton-birds recently purchased for the Maori soldiers, this amount being considered the kiaoga's fair quota. It was also decided to have a parcelling evening of the Boys' Christmas Comforts on Monday. Notwithstanding the three or four inches of snow which fell the first week of tho month, and the 'following days of dirty weather, very little water remained in the paddocks, and practically no cases of stock losses are reported in the district. Likewise, the autumnsown crops,- which are at present well through the ground, seem to have suffered no ill effects.

LADBROOKS. t There was a largo attendance at the servico of tho Methodist Church, held in the schoolroom on Sunday afternoon. The Rev. B. Metson occupied the pulpit, and during his address referred to the departure of Pilot "W. W. Withell, who is leaving shortly for tho front. At the conclusion of the service Mr Metson, on behalf of the congregation, in an appropriate speech, presented Pilot Withell with an engraved pocket wallet and money belt. Pilot Withell suitably' the gift. Large quantities of potatoes and chaff have been sent forward during the week. The local farrmers are very busy just now cutting and trimming their hedges. This work has given the different farms a very neat apearance, more especially where the early crops are well above ground. A large number of members of the Ladbrooks North Tennis Club and friends met at tho tennis court on Saturday afternoon, the occasion being to bid farewell to the cant.iin of the club, Miss M. White, who is shortly leaving the district for Ashburton. During the afternoon Mr T. Trask, the president, on hehalf of the members of the club and friends, presented Miss Whit© with a silver-mounted jam dish. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. MAYFIELD. There was a very large gathering at the Band Hall, Mayfield, on Thursday evening last, when a farewell was tendered to Nurse Withell, who haa been accepted by the Defence Department for active service. Mr D. O. Sewell presided. Addresses were given by the Rev. J. Johnston Kellow, and Messrs J. Dellow and C. Sewell. The Rev. Kellow, on behalf of the Mayfield.resi* dents, presented Nurse Withell with a wrietlet watch.
