THE FREEZING INDUSTRY.
TO THE EI>ITOR OP "THB PBESS." Sir,—My morning's work may be of interest to fat sheep farmers generally. I was one of a representative deputation of three Canterbury farmers who took it upon ourselves to ascertain how much space would be available next season. We asked no favours of the freezing companies, as we said we wero prep/ared to sell our ewe lambs to the farmers on the foothills, who must re-stock owing to the snowstorm. We found out that, roughly, there was space for 300,000 in the works near the citv ? not inoluding one of the largest, winch was on the "wait and sec game,", and the latter said it would buy the. necessary material if it could be done, but it wanted to know what the other companies W doing. Another big company considered the position was Beriouß, but by no means desperate. " There seems to be. no authentic, news of any shipping. New Zealand is apparently quite at sea on that point. One source of exporters from the other side of the world says that the* Imperial Government 'will lift a larger amount of the meat if it thought' it was not' being accommodated here, which tends to retard any movement of the companies towards increasing their space. The companies, however, have trouble in getting material. I don't think the fat lamb need, worry too .much, but he must not lay himself out to fatten any more than usual.— Yours, etc., • ' ' MINT SAUCE.
